A Busy, Busy Week
I’ll be posting sporadically this week, as the schedule is so full. I have work every day, of course, and rehearsals for the Broadway revue every night. My mom is keeping the kids all day (from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.), and I run in and out at lunch- and supper-time to kiss the boys and tell them I love them. Rehearsals are going fairly well … we’re finally running through the whole show each night. I think it’s going to be really good. Maybe even great!
The kids are enjoying their time with Grandma; she has a whirlpool tub and they love taking baths in it. I just hope it isn’t wearing out my mom too much. More and more lately I realise that she simply isn’t the same mom she was when I was a kid. She’s getting older and the stroke and other health problems have really taken it out of her. It’s kind of painful to realise this. She’s always been, you know, MOM. And I begin to realise that she’s not always going to be there. And that she won’t be able to give as she has in the past. That’s tough. At least, thank God, she has not lost any mental faculties yet. Her dad had Alzheimer’s before it was really a well-known thing, and he died at age 76, shortly after we had to put him in care because he was getting violent. Her mom, though, is as bright as ever at 76. I’m hoping Mom doesn’t develop Alzheimer’s — she’s such an independent and strong person that it would be humiliating and miserable for her.
The kids are liking being with Grandpa in the evenings, too. Grandpa has these great books that he reads to them, and Grandpa’s voice can go for hours, unlike me, who peters out after only a few pages. So the boys are having fun. And I am trying to keep life together in one-hour bits between the time we get home and the time I have to go to bed. I’m looking forward to the play, but I am looking forward to next week and a return to normal even more.
