Planning for the Weekend

Posted by Editormum on 6 April 2006 in Just Another Single Mother |
I have a lot of things to accomplish this weekend. I have some herbs and seeds to plant, and some flowerbeds to weed. I have a house to tidy up. I have articles to write — I need to finish 20 of them by the end of the month. I have taxes to do, and filing to do in preparation. I’ve got a Sunday school class to prep for — I’m introducing the youngsters to Passover Seder foods, including taste-testing, so there’s karpas and maror, charoset and baytzah, matzot and z’roa to prepare — and a leg of lamb to roast. And I have the kids this weekend, so there’s time to spend with them that I want to include in the mix. The kids are singing in service on Sunday, and my handbell choir is playing. It’s gonna be a busy weekend.
So I’m planning now. Tomorrow on the way home from work, I’ll stop and get groceries. I’ll come home and get the kids to help me fold laundry and put it away. Then the kids will take their baths while I roast the eggs, bones, and lamb. Then I’ll spend an hour with the kids, letting them read to me and maybe playing a short game with them. After I’ve tucked them into bed, I’ll clean the kitchen and write a couple of articles before putting myself to bed.

On Saturday, we’ll get up and (if it’s not stormy) spend the morning out in the yard doing the outside work. We’ll come in for lunch and then I’ll have the kids help me make the remaining Seder items. After that, I’ll let them play outside (or video games if it’s stormy) while I do some more filing and write another couple of articles. When I can’t stand sitting anymore, I’ll clean the bathrooms and carry some stuff to the attic. Somewhere in there, I’ll have the kids do some cleaning in their rooms, which look like mini-disaster areas. We’ll have supper and again spend an hour together before I tuck them into bed.

Sunday morning is church, from 9 to noon. I think I’ll take the kids out for lunch, as they will have worked hard all weekend and will deserve a treat. We should get home around 2, and then we can go home and they can play games while I do some more filing. and article-writing.

It’s going to be busy, but I think we can accomplish a lot as we learn to work together.
