Lost My Groove

Posted by Editormum on 24 March 2010 in Uncategorized |

Wow … almost a month of no new posts (though I have been migrating old posts from my Blogit account, so you’ll see some really old stuff back in the archives, as well as my new “Inspirations” page). Lost my groove back there somewhere, and haven’t the time to go back and try to find it.

So I’m gonna start me a new groove. (Me and the Emperor, right?)

It’s karate tournament season, so Number Two Son and I have been hitting the tournament ring or the practise pit on Saturdays. Along with several friends from the two schools we frequent, both affiliates of the Shiloh Martial Arts Association. In late February, we competed at the “Bragging Rights” tournament hosted by Rev. Wind Martial Arts here in Memphis. And last weekend, we competed at the “Clash of the Champions” tournament hosted by Southern Martial Arts, Inc. (affectionately known as SMAC), in Greenwood, MS. Our contingent placed well, and we’re looking forward to two more SMAC tourneys, one in April and one in May, and a new Memphis tournament in April. (Where’d I put that flyer?!)

It’s also getting close to baseball season. Number One Son is highly upset that the team he’d hoped to play on, sponsored by our local home education association, had to disband due to lack of players in his age group. So, he’ll play on the church team for one more year. As I told him, at least you’re getting to put bat to ball. Even if the intensity is not what you want. (I can’t afford Little League, even if I could find a team here in Memphis.)

And it’s getting into prime camping season for the Boy Scouts, with the weather turning nice. Which means lots of packing, followed by lots of laundry.

I’m working really hard on paying down debt. Things got a bit out of hand, and I was seriously concerned about making ends meet. But a few sales on Craigslist, cashing in an old IRA, and a couple of money-making  brain-waves have given me some breathing space. Dave Ramsey was right, folks. Or, rather, he is right. Debt snowball, here I come.

And then there are the books. The books that have hit me like a ton of bricks. Opened up the vault into which I had sealed myself emotionally since the divorce ten years ago. Oh. My. Word. Let’s just say I haven’t recovered yet. And leave it at that, for a while. Other than, if you are married, want to be married, used to be married, or know someone who is in some way connected to the state of being married, you need these two books. Seriously. Of all the books I’ve ever read on the marriage state (and, baby, I’ve read a lot), these two books are the first on the list. If you have to budget them in, DO IT. Believe me, it will be worth it if you do.
