I see that France and Germany are still against our going to war with Saddam Hussein…giving us more of that “diplomacy can work” garbage. Quite frankly, I am disgusted.
If it weren’t for America, neither country would be anything like what it is today. In fact, if it weren’t for America, there might not even be a France. When we finally entered WWII, we liberated their sorry selves from the Nazi occupation, and rebuilt their blasted (literally) country from the ground up. I’ve seen pictures of what occupied France looked like, and it ain’t pretty. If we hadn’t sent money and other assistance, they could very well still look like that.
And then there’s Germany. You would think that, of all nations, Germany would recognize the dangers of a monomaniacal despot and would want to stop him cold. I wonder, if it were France and England trying to stop Mr. Hussein, rather than the U.S., would Germany still oppose it? You know, we put that country back together after WWII, too, even though it was their leader that started the whole thing.
I should also point out that a tremendous amount of the loans that we made to both these countries to help in their reconstruction efforts was forgiven, and they’ve never been made to pay it back. That’s my taxes, your taxes, and our parents’ taxes that were used to rebuild another country. And now these two countries don’t want us to protect our own people? Hmph.
So I don’t really care the slightest little bit what France and Germany think. I think they should put up and shut up, and maybe repay some of the debt that they owe us for our support and assistance over the years.
