Court Dates and Rank Tests and Other Insanity

Posted by Editormum on 12 December 2008 in Uncategorized |

So if the holidays weren’t complicated enough, yesterday I had to take a half-day off from work to go to court with the ex. And then I get down there, and he decides that, rather than going through the ordeal of actually appearing in court, he’ll work a deal with us there, in the corridor of the courtroom ten minutes before our docket slot. And he wonders why I keep insisting that we will NEVER reconcile. He just cost me $400 in court and filing fees, and a half-day’s leave … for nothing. I’m glad we worked out the deal, but damn!

Tonight the boys and I have rank tests to move from yellow to orange belts in karate. I’m not terribly worried about my performance … I pretty much know the stuff. But I ruptured my right gastrocnemius muscle last week, and I’m worried about being able to bear weight on that side. It will only be an issue a few times during the test, but it still is a worry. My younger son is supremely confident of himself. I wish I knew how to check that attitude a bit, since he’s in danger of becoming a self-satisfied prig. But I guess that maturity will come in that area, too. My older son is not so confident, but I’m going to walk through the forms with him before the test, just to give him a last little review. I’m sure he will do fine.

And the holidays are here. Shopping is insane. Work is insane. Life is insane.

Oh, for a peaceful, quiet, non-commercial rest. LOL. Maybe on MLK day, since we get that day off. Here’s hoping.
