Days 5 and 6 of the Lemonade Diet

Posted by Editormum on 23 February 2005 in Cleanse |

Day 5, continued: By the time C’s basketball practise was over, I was feeling okay enough to take the kids to Chick-Fil-A for supper. I felt kind of silly sitting there sipping my lemonade, but I resisted the wild urge to snag one of the boys’ nuggets. And when we got home, my head was still aching, but not so bad that we had to skip story-time again. Also, I had enough energy and little enough pain to finish one of the smaller editing projects that I need to get out this week. I need the money badly; the car insurance premium is due, and I just shot my wad paying the property taxes.

Day 6: I’m doing much better today; I slept very well, even though I went to bed late and had to get up at 4 for the salt-water flush. I felt rested and ready to face the day when I woke. And I have only the teeniest vestige of a headache … and hunger pangs! I haven’t felt hunger pangs in years!

Okay, so that may sound like a weird thing to get excited about, but for at least 20 years, my body has not been able to tell me that it needed food. I would just be going along and suddenly get sick from low blood sugar / lack of food. I didn’t know I was hungry, and I would forget to eat. BAD THING. So hunger pangs are BEAUTIFUL. Even if the only thing I can quench them with is lemonade.

A friend suggested that my body shifted into “high-speed detox mode” as soon as I started this cleanse. It wouldn’t surprise me. My body is stupid that way. There’s either feast or famine, nothing in between. My body doesn’t understand “gradual” or “take it slow.”

Anyway, I have the 5- and 6-year-old choir tonight, so I hope the last touch of ache is gone by the end of the workday. I can work through this, but I sure as heck can’t handle 18 wiggly kids with it!
