A man in Oklahoma City has “donated” 30,000 mice to the city. After neighbors complained of an unpleasant smell emanating from the man’s property, the investigating police found the mice in a barn. They arrested the owner and charged him with unhealthy conditions, lack of care, and an animal cruelty violation, the AP reports.
The man had the mice as a business: he sold them as feeder mice to pet stores and snake breeders. He will not continue the business.
The mice will probably be given to the City Zoo, so they don’t get much out of the deal—-they don’t even escape their “feeder” status. A zoo official said that the Zoo uses about 50,000 mice each year, so this large batch will significantly decrease their spending this year.
