A woman who filed a domestic violence complaint was mistakenly arrested when the police came for her husband, the AP reports. After spending nearly 24 hours in jail, the double victim was released after it was discovered that her description was mistakenly listed on a warrant issued by the State Attorney’s Office, which was actually seeking to have her husband arrested.
An official confirms that police were given the husband’s name, but the warrant they carried had the wife’s physical description. “The last thing we want to do is re-victimize the victim,” the official said. But that is exactly how the victim feels: “I am a victim in this,” the woman said, “not once—-twice!”
The official said that an internal investigation had been initiated, but one wonders if the police don’t need vision tests instead.
