I’ve always said that being careful causes accidents. If you just bounce blithely through life, ricocheting off of anything in your path, you will escape unscathed. This story proves it:
A 19-year-old woman in Hamlin, WV, survived being hit by two trains; the first train knocked her car off of one track and onto an adjacent track, where the car was struck by a second train. The woman, being a safety conscious driver, pulled off the road to use her cell-phone. Unfortunately, she pulled off of the road onto the railroad track.
I’m not sure whether this woman deserves an award for pulling off the road to use her phone, or whether she is more deserving of a Darwin Award. But it proves my point. If she hadn’t been so safety-conscious, she wouldn’t have pulled over to use her cell phone, and she would never have been struck by the first train, much less the second.
