Mama Told Me There’d Be Days Like This….
We all went to bed on time last night, for once, but the younger son had me up at midnight, 1:45, 3:15, 4:30, 5:45, and 6:30 — vomiting and feverish. Heaving from his toenails, poor little fish. He couldn’t even keep water down. Which was awful, as he kept crying that he was thirsty, but if I gave him water, he cried because he puked. Awful night. SO he’s been in bed all day, and I have accomplished very little due to being exhausted. I even had to cancel my older son’s guitar lesson and my attendance at choir rehearsal (with Easter coming, yet!) this evening.
Poor baby, he kept throwing up until about noon, and then he was able to keep some water down. I gave him some very diluted chicken broth at 1:30, and that stayed down all right, too. He went down for a nap at 2, and slept until 4. Which was good. I got supper going and worked on the laundry while he slept. I think I should have taken a nap, though.
Anyway, he was doing fine until a bit ago. I think he just ate too much. He’s complaining of being hungry and he keeps asking for crackers, but I have learned the hard way that if we start his tummy back on solids too soon, we will all be very, very sorry. So I gave him some chicken broth and some jello. I don’t know if he ate too much or too fast, but he lost it. Then he came back and finished his jello, and then half an hour later wanted more. He’s kept it all down for about 30 minutes, so we may be all right again. I hope so. It would not do for me to go in late for work tomorrow, or to have to take the day off — as I have just had two days off after a half-day on Monday. It just wouldn’t look right, no matter what. But if he keeps me up all night again, well, I am calling in. And they will just have to cope.
Anyway, I am off to clean up supper. Corned beef, sauced beets, purple mashed potatoes, and green beans for the non-sick people in the family. I thought it was wonderful, but the older kid hated it. Oh well. The potatoes were naughty of me, though. Definitely not low-carb. Again, oh well. I’m too tired to care. I’d leave the dirty dishes until tomorrow, but I wouldn’t be able to fix breakfast….the sink’s full. Ah well, half an hour’s work, and then I am off to bed.
