Weekend Wildness!

Posted by Editormum on 5 April 2004 in Uncategorized |

Wow! What a weekend that was. I don’t think I stopped to breathe. Got up Saturday morning and fed the kids, moved all the laundry off the couch onto my bed, sorted it, and folded a good bit of it. Dad called and they wanted to store some things in my shed and add some stuff to the Yard Sale pile in there, so I went out and organised it so we could fit it all in there. Dad came and was impressed. I helped him unload his van, and then the ex came for the kids. Ex tried to start something about the car seats, but I told him I didn’t have time to fool with it right now, what with no boss at work and the house a shambles and the stuff at Grandpa’s to get. Headed over to the folks’ house, but stopped at a yard sale and found an almost-new car seat for $3. Bought it. If the ex doesn’t want it, I can sell it.

Went over to Mom and Dad’s and helped them get their things out of Grandpa’s garage; my brothers (including my honorary brother, long story….) came and helped. I treated everyone to Cappuccino Chillers from Crema at mid-afternoon, and Dad treated us all to dinner at El Chico’s late in the evening. We finished at the folks’ about 7, and then we all went home and got cleaned up, so it was 8 before we went to the restaurant. We got home at 9:30 and I had the kids in bed by 10. Then I got to go around and advance all the clocks, so it was “11:30” when I finally slid between the sheets.

Got up Sunday and went to church. The kids were singing for service. My brother was going to video them for me, as the ex wasn’t going to be there (something “important” at his church — so he couldn’t come see his kids perform), but the camera jammed and wouldn’t work. Oh well. We’ve gotten every other performance on tape. Missing one isn’t going to kill us. And there were other folks taping, so I may be able to get a copy.

After church, went home to wait for the ex to pick up the kids. Got ready to get in the car and dash over to Grandpa’s. Ex showed up at 1 with two other kids in his car…I hustled them away. Spent 4 hours at Grandpa’s digging. My (other) Grandma and my folks showed up to finish clearing things out of Grandpa’s garage, and Grandma helped me dig, which was nice. I got finished thanks to her amazing help.

Ran home and unloaded the car and vacuumed out the seats at 5, then showered and got ready to go back to church for bell practise. The ex was late bringing the kids home, so we didn’t leave the house until almost 6:15. But we grabbed chicken nuggets on the way (some days I thank heaven for Wendy’s), and we actually made it to church on time. Bell practise was wonderful!

Went home, bathed the kids, put them to bed, and took a long, hot, soaky bath to ease my achy muscles. Collapsed like a burst balloon into the bed, and slept like a baby most all night. My youngest woke me at 1:30, all stuffed up and coughing, poor lad, so I doped him with purple Triaminic and tucked him back in. At 2, my oldest came in to tell me there was a spiderweb in his bed, so I had to go and do the search and rescue, reassure and tuck-in routine for him.

But it was a very productive weekend, and I will have a productive day today. After work, I have to gas up the car and I will use the station’s big vacuum to get all the rocks and dirt out of the floorboards and trunk. Then some grocery shopping, and then home to start planting. I have to get the flowering quince and the spice bush into the ground — they are both starting to look a bit droopy. After dark, I’ll shower and fold the rest of the laundry. No work tomorrow or Wednesday (I get off work for Pesach), so I can get a lot of planting and house stuff done. ‘Rah!
