Mission Accomplished!
Well, kids, the numbers are in, and I donated $40 to WalkAmerica from The Blogit Writers’ Group this morning. Thanks for ALL of your support! I am SO thankful to all the many people who donated either money or clicks to this worthy cause.
We walked the 4.5 miles this morning. It was a gorgeous day for it, not too hot, but not too cool, and no rain. I started in the front of the pack, and finished near the end of the pack, and it took me two hours to walk it … so about 27 minutes per mile. A little slower than my usual rate, but not bad for a 230-pound woman in her first distance event in 15 years.
Most of the way, I was “alone.” I mean, there were people around me walking, and passing me, but I dropped away from my company’s team within the first mile. But that was okay. I had brought my CD player and an audio book, so I was fine. And the last mile or so, my good friend caught up to me and we walked together.
I drank nearly half a gallon of water over the course of the race, and finally had to break down and use a porta-john in that last mile. Ugh. I remember why I hate those things. Won’t do that again! No way. I’ll bring a JAR! Shiver. That trip to the potty was worse than the pain from the walk!
Anyway, we finished! And both of us had the same idea, when the course took us past the lot where our cars were parked: “I could leave now, and no one would know, or care. … Except me. I would know, and I would be disappointed in myself. And besides, a lot of people paid for me to do this. I just couldn’t let them down.”
So the Walkathon is done. Well done to all of the Blogit Writers who joined in the donation. I appreciate your support immensely!
