Stripping
… get your mind out of the dustbin … I’m stripping wallpaper.
We’re moving on in the house remodel, and the next step is to take the wallpaper off of the living room walls. Thing is, it doesn’t want to come off. I swear that the people who put it up must have painted the walls and sprayed them with glue while they were still wet, and then stuck the wallpaper onto the still wet-paint-and-glue walls. Even with the most extreme care, we are pulling off sheets of wallpaper with a layer of paint. Fortunately, there are at least three coats of paint on the walls, so we haven’t damaged the cardboard wall-boards, except when our stripping knives slip and gouge the walls.
I’m so very excited about this process. The workers have already moved the back door and opened up the kitchen. I’m going to have a picture window where the old back door was. (I had two. This is one of those old houses where there was a utility room with a separate entrance next to the back door. Before we moved in, someone had opened a door from the kitchen into the utility room, so I had two back doors separated by a 16-inch bit of wall. We’re making the old utility room door the only back door, to allow for more cabinet space in the kitchen.)
We’ve chosen the tile for the bathroom area, and the tub surround is going to be cultured marble — probably in a white or slightly off-white colour. We’re getting the new cabinets today, and they are supposed to start ripping off the old roof so that it can be replaced.
This is just so exciting!
