Settling In
Now that all of the actual moving is over, we’re beginning to settle in at my parents’ house. When I got home from work last night, I told the kids to grab their bikes and we went for a walk/ride (me walking, them riding) around the “block.” My parents live in a neighbourhood where there aren’t any sidewalks and the cross streets are widely spaced, so a “block” there is about three times as long as the blocks in my subdivision. I think it’s about two miles around her “block.” It’s not quite one mile around mine.
After supper, the kids took a bath in Mom and Dad’s whirlpool tub — they love the “bubble bath,” so we’re going to let them use it once or twice a week. Then I read to them and tucked them into bed.
My older son is a bit worrying. He got back from the weekend with his dad, and, shortly after breakfast, fell asleep on my mom’s couch. He barely stirred when I came home for lunch. Mom said he didn’t wake p until 4:30. When I tucked him into bed at 8:30, he fell asleep within ten minutes, and didn’t wake until 7 this morning. That’s a lot of sleeping in less than 48 hours. I figure their dad must have run them ragged this weekend. He doesn’t adhere to their usual schedule, keeping them up late and getting them up early. So they are frequently tired when they get home from visitation. But he’s never been this tired.
In any case, after I tucked them in, I did about 10 minutes on Mom’s stationary bike, and then went up and unpacked and tidied up the room I’m in. I turned in at 11, after getting quite a bit done. The settling in will take time, but I’m making good progress.
