Follow-up to the mouse story…

I’m way overdue reporting on the mouse situation here at Chez Editormum. We had poison boxes and mousetraps out for about two weeks, and I checked them several times daily.

We almost got him the first day I put them out. I put it down in the laundry room, just next the refuse bin, and went back into the kitchen. I was standing at the sink when I heard a SNAP! I ran into the laundry just in time to see a little grey rump disappearing behind the washer. Darn!

So we didn’t see or hear the little beggar for over a week. Then, one Saturday morning, I’m rushing around trying to get the kids ready for their basketball games. My oldest is following me around, talking to me. I’m walking about barefoot and in my pajamas. I walk to the front door and open it, not noticing that my son has stopped talking. I check the outside temperature and turn around to walk back to my room to dress. My son is in front of me, now, and as I look at him and start walking toward him, he points at the floor and says, “Mom, watch out! The …”

At that point, I looked down and saw the little dead furry thing lying right where I was about to put my foot! I screamed so loud that the door glass rattled. It just startled me so. We disposed with the creature’s carcass, and we haven’t seen anything else in the several weeks since.
