There Is Hope!
We got a lot done yesterday — well, a lot compared to how things have been going, though I am still not up to the energy and stamina I had before that thrice-cursed wreck eighteen months ago.
We cleaned, dusted, swept, and wet-mopped the boys’ bedroom and the bathrooms. We folded and put away all of the clothes that were on the couch. We cleaned the kitchen. I packed several more boxes with china, silver, glassware, and knick-knacks, and we took them to the storage building.
My brother came over and took pictures of the old bits of the house for my next hearing before the Board of Equalization. I dunno what’s wrong with those people! The LAST hearing I had, they scheduled it so I had to take the morning off on the day after a holiday (Yom Kippur, which my company observes), and now they’ve done it again. I have to take the morning off on 16 January, the day after Martin Luther King Day, which my company observes. Sigh. I suppose there’s no way for them to know, really, but it’s definitely annoying. I don’t like asking for time off right after a holiday. Looks bad.
Anyway, there is Hope! The house is beginning — albeit slowly — to come together. I’ll have to fold the freshly cleaned laundry tonight, and probably won’t get anything else done, but the kids are with their father this weekend, so I’m sure to get a good bit done then.

The toughest thing about being a single mother is that it’s unrelenting.
You have the responsibility 24-7. Sometimes you can’t take time for a deep breath until the kids are visiting their dad or grandparents. And there’s always the issue of food on the table, a roof over their wee little heads. I can only tell you that 20 years down the road you’ll look back and realize it’s all worth it. Your investment in your kids is the best one you can ever make. It’s ok to give yourself a break now and then, treat yourself to half an hour with your feet up… Happy New Year. 🙂
