About My Mom
A comment was left on my last post that maybe my mom was a bit out of line … she’s not, and I want to explain why.
As a single mom, I rely a LOT on my mother for child care and other things. She keeps my boys from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every work day. She makes breakfast for them, lunch and supper for all of us. She helps with their homeschool projects and drill work. She’s also willing to keep the boys extra when I have an after-work meeting or other event. When I did the Broadway thing for church, she kept the kids from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. every night for ten days. And she never complains.
Mom seldom comes to the house. The kids go to her. She came over yesterday only because the kids needed their coats. And they had trouble finding the coats because the house was a mess and the kids had not hung up their coats where they belonged.
Mom didn’t say how distressed she was about how the house looked. She didn’t have to. I am disgusted by the way the house is myself, and she didn’t need to say anything. What upset me was just knowing that she’d had to come in and see this disaster … and I couldn’t hide my inadequacy anymore.
Mom is wonderful. She has been there for me, helped me, and given me wings when I had no strength to lift myself. If she could help me with this, she would. But she just had surgery, and she’s not able to get around very well. And she’s trying to get her house ready for the family Thanksgiving dinner, which I cannot help her with this year.
So don’t think ill of Mom. She’s never, ever let me down. And my reaction last night had nothing to do with her, and everything to do with my own failures.
