We Pulled It Off

Well, the annual Administrative Professionals’ Day Luncheon for IAAP is history. I was on the committee for my local chapter’s luncheon planning, and it was actually kind of fun.We planned and planned. We wanted a seated, served meal rather than a buffet. I figure if my company is going to shell out $25 each to pay for me and my exec(s) having a meal, they don’t want a barbecue buffet; they want something upscale. So we had a lovely lunch that was actually so good that some people asked for second helpings!

We wanted simple centerpieces that were elegant. And so we got some tall vases and did a very simple arrangement with gerbera daisies, curly willow, some kind of broad leaf, and some sort of long grass. They were really nice. At the end of the meal those whose programmes had a certain mark on them got to take the centerpieces on their table home with them.

We wanted a program that would last only an hour, since most admins can wangle a 90-minute lunch, but more than that gets problematic. We started 10 minutes late, waiting on a last guest of honour, but the program was precisely 60 minutes.

And my co-worker won the Administrative Professional of the Year award. Which was just too awesome for words!

It was a great day, and well worth the time I put in on it.
