None of the Above, Please
I want a new choice put on the Presidential ballots. I know this was made into a movie ages ago — think it starred Eddie Murphy — but I am really serious. I think “None of the Above” should be on the ballot for EVERY presidential and senatorial race.
The rules would be that you’d have the various candidates on the ballot, followed by the write-in option (does anyone ever use that?), and then “None of the Above.” If “NotA” got a majority or plurality of votes, then the race would have to be re-run, with a completely new slate of candidates. No one who had run in the first attempt would be allowed to run in the second.
I think this would be useful, as many of the people I know don’t like ANY of the players on the national stage right now. I know I don’t. And not for the first time. I know who I will end up voting for in the presidential race, though I don’t think he will make a great president. I just think he’s “the lesser of two evils.” It was the same in the recent senate and house races in my district. And, quite frankly, I’m sick to death of voting for the lesser of two evils. How about getting to vote for someone I really LIKE? What a concept!
Now please don’t jam up my comments telling me why your favourite candidate should be mine. I’ve got my reasons for not liking each of them, but they aren’t something I want to discuss because I’m not in the mood for the acrimony of political controversy.
