Nothing Like Good Timing

Posted by Editormum on 22 July 2008 in Uncategorized |

I have impeccable timing. Really, I do. Take my weight and health issues, for instance.

For over a decade, I have been between 80 and 100 pounds overweight. I was doing really well in 1999–2000, losing weight and feeling great, when some naysayers who didn’t approve of my diet plan convinced me that I should quit. Dumb me. I didn’t regain anything, and stayed pretty stable, weight-wise, until I decided in 2004 to get rid of the rest of the excess weight. I made good progress in correcting the problems until a number of car wrecks and other accidents made it nearly impossible for me to exercise, and BOOM! I ballooned again.

So at the beginning of July, I decided that I was sick to death of being fat and feeling old, and decided to go back on the only diet that ever worked for me — Atkins. Only this time I would see it through, no matter what anyone said about it. And I would gradually start exercising again, so that I’d be fit and toned as well as my right weight.

So I called my doctor and told him what I was going to do, and asked him to give me the battery of tests that Atkins recommends prior to starting his plan. After some serious weirdness, I managed to get the most important one: the glucose tolerance test.

So Doc called me yesterday and tells me that I have diabetes. That if I will promise to do what I said I was going to do, he will let me try diet and exercise to control it. But if I’m not making serious progress in about six months, it’s meds and/or shots for me.

Timing. It’s all about timing.
