Getting Back to Routine

Posted by Editormum on 4 June 2007 in Just Another Single Mother |

Sort of. After working a two-day week last week, I will be working a four-day week this week. (At my regular job, that is.) Of course, I was busy on my off days last week, attending the conference. This Friday and Saturday, I will be at a homeschool conference demonstrating curriculum. So it’ll be work of a different sort.

But I’m getting back into the routine of the week. Up early, shower, dress, hair, breakfast, travel to work. Eight hours of various tasks, then home for supper and get the kids ready for bed. Our new routine is to get them ready from 7 to 8, and then to read together from 8 to 8:30. We start with them reading a short devotional from a book for kids that is based on My Utmost for His Highest. When they are finished, I tuck them in and sit on the end of one of their beds and read a chapter from one of the Narnia books. We are reading them in chronological order, and are nearly finished with the first one: The Magician’s Nephew, which tells the story of how Narnia came to be. They were skeptical at first, but now they are really into it and keep trying to get me to read more than one chapter.

After reading to them and giving them a final tuck-in, kiss, and hug, I check e-mail, do paperwork, and get ready for bed. I try to be in bed between 9:30 and 10. It’s early, but it has been necessary since the wreck. I just don’t function without a full 8 hours.

So I’m going to wrap up the blogging and get to bed.
