Still going!
We’ve finished laying tile, and now we need to grout it. But we can’t do that yet, because the floor refinishers started yesterday. They ground down the floor to bare wood — it’s a beautiful oak parquet — and they are going to stain it a rich, dark brown called “Spice.” Then they have to let the stain dry before they can apply the final finishing coat to the floor. So they’re thinking they will be done on Tuesday or Wednesday.
I can’t wait to see it. I’ve known since the day I pulled out the carpet and found that parquet flooring that it could be beautiful. We just had to get the years of carpet-cover damage erased. I’m really excited to see that happening.
We’re getting close to the end, now. Once the wood floors are done, and the bathroom tile grouted, we’ll have the contractors return and lay the kitchen linoleum, and reinstall the toilets and sinks. And then we can move back in. I hope it’s all done before my birthday next month. I’d really like to be back in my own place by then. That would be a GREAT birthday present, even if I did have to pay for it myself.
