Busy….

Posted by Editormum on 15 May 2007 in Just Another Single Mother |

We’ve been very busy this past week, as evidenced by the fact that I haven’t posted in 8 days!

We’ve begun laying tile in the bathrooms of our house, which is fun but labour-intensive.

We also painted the insides of the kitchen cabinets — a sunshiny yellow a little more intense than the kitchen walls. It’s a neat effect!

The kids were with their dad this weekend — yes, even on Mother’s Day. My choice. And the oldest came back with his own cell phone. Sigh. As three of my friends have said, “He’s ten years old, and homeschooled. He goes home, to grandma’s, to dad’s, and to church. A parent is always with him. What does he need a cellphone for?!” Apparently, to play games. I asked if it wouldn’t have been cheaper to buy him a GameBoy, but apparently X promised Son that he’d fix the phone. Whatever. Sometimes grownups have to admit to their kids that they made a stupid promise, and ask the kids to forgive them.

Anyway, it’s quiet at work this week, though we are working hard on several projects. None of them is drop-dead urgent, so it means a nice, steady pace of work, instead of running all-out.

A cell phone at 10 years old? Now that’s the kind of thing I don’t want to have to deal with…and my daughter is only 19 months old!

Already, I just want her father to leave us alone. I’ve asked him to stay involved but it’s like I’m begging him to show interest in his own child. When he calls to visit it’s close to her bedtime so I am likely to say no. I think he does it on purpose so that he can say ‘well, at least I tried, but your mother said no’. He’s giving her the dregs of his time, in my opinion. I won’t have it!
