Fun With the Boys

My sons and I are really enjoying this week off. We’re still doing school-work, of course, but once that’s done for the day, we can have fun. Today’s plan is to go to the zoo, if it’s not raining. Yesterday, we had a luncheon and a doctor’s appointment, and then we went to Chuck E. Cheese. For three hours! The boys had a lot of fun, and I read a lot of Little Men while letting them roam about.

We’ve worked hard on math … the boys are now learning multiplication, doubling, and halving. And we’ve worked on grammar and spelling. They are learning the parts of speech and rules for spelling the /k/ sound. (When do you use C, K, or CK.)

We’ve done a lot of educational field trips this week: two trips to the planetarium, three trips to the I-Max (for films about ancient Greece, Hurricane Katrina/the Louisiana wetlands, and the Mars rover program), a trip to the natural history museum (they loved the dinosaurs and the insect displays), and today’s trip to the zoo. We’ve crammed a lot of learning into these five days. So tomorrow, if the weather is good, we are going to spend the afternoon at Putt-Putt.

We’re also having fun with River King. We try to complete one challenge each day. We did two challenges on Tuesday — they were easy.

It’s been a good week. I’ll be taking another one in June or July, since my vacation days from work do not carry over into the new year (starting on my anniversary date). And I think we’ll have just as much fun then.
