Another Busy Day

Posted by Editormum on 7 April 2007 in Just Another Single Mother |

Long time readers of this blog will have figured out that Saturdays are errand-days for me. Today was no exception, though I did have a nice lie-in this morning. I didn’t get out of bed until 8! After a leisurely breakfast, though, it was off to the shops.

I went to Radio Shack to pick up something for my dad, and took it back to the house. Then I started my own list of things to do.

  • * filling station for petrol and a wash
    * Mantia’s for tea and San Pellegrino
    * Dinstuhl’s for Easter candy for the kids (ran into them and their dad while there! Eek!)
    * used book store (just browsing — found some goodies!)
    * Schnuck’s to return something I bought by mistake
    * Wild Oats to look for an ayate washcloth — they didn’t have one (but I ran into my good friend and co-worker there)
    * Borders Books, to return a book I’d bought my dad for his birthday only to find that he already had it
    * Lunch at Philly Connection
    * Lowe’s for the tiles for my bathroom (man, those things are HEAVY!)
    * the storage facility, to pull out the Easter stuff
    * two kids’ consignment shops for jeans for my oldest
    * Barnes and Noble (just browsing, but found some more goodies!)
    * Sam’s for milk and to fill prescriptions — which I missed by 5 minutes! (I didn’t know they closed the pharmacy early on Saturdays!)
    * my house to drop off the tiles (man! those things are HEAVY!) and pick up the mail
    * Mom’s house to drop off the milk and unload the loot from the day
    * El Chico’s for supper with the folks.
  • And now I’m back home, getting ready to put things away and tidy up the bedroom a bit before crashing into bed. I’m knackered.

And I’ve only walked 8000 steps today. Sigh. I’ll have to go walk five miles tomorrow to make up, I guess. There’s a park close to my folks’ house that has a really nice little walking trail, exactly one mile long. I did two “laps” the other night during my son’s baseball practise — took me about 40 minutes. I need to build some speed. I’d like to be walking a 12- to 15-minute mile by the time the Walkathon comes along.

I hope moving those tiles counts for something in the exercise realm today. I bought eight boxes, and each box weighs 38.5 pounds. I had to lift them all into the shopping cart and wheel the cart to the checkstand. Then I had to lift them all out of the cart and into my car. At Sam’s, I had to rearrange them to fit the stuff I’d bought in there. And then I had to lift them out of the car and stack them in the house. I carried 310 pounds of tile at least 50 feet, not to mention pushing them about a half-mile through Lowe’s. That’s gotta count for something!
