Yesterday Was a Lovely Day
Despite the fact that I am still unemployed, I had a marvellous day yesterday. I took the children to the initial visit for the research study, and we learned a lot about the ear and its workings. I was also reassured that neither child has any hearing problems at all. (I was a bit worried about the younger, as he didn’t talk until age 3 and has trouble with sibiliants and linguals. He’s been growing out of it, so I haven’t been dreadfully worried, but it was nice to have my concerns laid to rest by the hearing test.
After the test, we went by the bank and got some cash (a refund check from a magazine subscription I cancelled at the first of the month), and then went to get the kids’ new prescriptions filled. Alas, Sam’s pharmacy didn’t have the meds in stock. So we went to another pharmacy, one closer to home. They had one of the meds in stock, but not the other. So we have to go back and pick that one up this afternoon. When we finished that, we went home and had lunch, then we lay down for a nap.
Now, I don’t generally take an afternoon nap — in fact, I drove my midwife crazy during both my pregnancies because I couldn’t nap and get that extra needed rest. So imagine my surprise when I woke up two hours later with my contacts sticking to my eyeballs. I’d slept like a rock, and, once I got the bleariness out of my eyes and unstuck my contacts, I did feel quite refreshed.
I had promised the children that, if they were cooperative about the tests that morning, we would take their bicycles to the playground after naptime. So we went and spent an hour and a half there, me reading and them playing. Then we came home, ate, bathed, and went to bed.
An altogether lovely and relaxing day. Today it’s back to the rat race, with writing cover letters and sending out resumes. But I’m feeling a bit more up to it now.
