Marching On
The curriculum fair is over and we did quite well. We went to church this morning and I told the pastor what happened. They’re going to cancel my pledge so that I don’t have to worry about that, and if I need help for groceries or something, I’m supposed to let him know. My Sunday School class and the choir are praying for me, and a lot of people have told me to give them my resume.
I’ve got a checklist of places to go and places to call. I’m going to cancel every money-spending thing I can that will get me money back—magazine subscriptions, health insurance, everything. I need to apply for unemployment and start handing out resumes. I have a list of ads from the local paper (accessed online) to apply for, as well as some things I found at the websites of local companies and schools.
On the way home from church, we found a treasure pile. Someone was throwing away a bunch of books … I’m a book nut, so I picked up all but the outdated textbooks. And then I realized that the rack they had tossed would be a great display rack for our curriculum products at the fair next month. So I got it too.
I was so excited as I started going through the books — most of them were RD Condensed Books, but there were two wonderful books I remember from my youth: Dangerous Island and Disney’s Living Desert. I can’t wait to share them with the kids. All of the books were a bit wet — some of them downright soggy — because it rained all morning. But I’ve been drying them gently in the oven and over the AC vents. They’ll be warped a bit, but still usable.
Anyway, I am trying hard to keep up my spirits and those of the kids.
